I am new to some of the features of Oracle like ASM.

I would like to get clarification on the following:

Does ASM require 3 or more physical drives for better performance and fault tolerance?

I have heard in the past that ASM does not need RAID to be configured as it has those functions built in. However, does ASM work if all the 3 physical drives are configured in RAID 5?

Thanks for any answers in advance.

Yes, I had already Googled this topic enough. However I am not very clear on the RAID and ASM relationship.

By posting here, I was looking for input from people who have actually experimented with this kind of setup.
