I am trying to find documentation on how ASM and ASMLib actually tie into the Linux kernel. For example, if a linux server is running kernel 2.6.18-164, and ASMLib is installed on that kernel, what happens when a kernel security update is released? Meaning, if the new kernel is 2.6.18-164.2.1, how does ASM react? Will it fail completely? Are there commands that need to be run when the kernel changes? Will a newer version of ASMLib need to be installed? Or since the Linux kernel is modular, and the same modules get added back when a kernel is changed, is there really anything that needs to be done?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to squash any potential problems in the future. Smile

Thanks!

Hi,

I've read about problems after upgrade of Linux Kernel Version 2.6.9-22.ELsmp to Version 2.6.9-55.0.2.ELsmp. But I don't know about new kernel.
Try this link and Note:462618.1 I hope it will help you.

Thanks for the link!!

That document was very helpful, however, it appears to be specific to 10g. Have there been large enough changes in 11g that would effect how it interacts with the kernel? I am just trying to get a fairly concise answer so that if/when a kernel security patch comes out for our servers that ASM won't need to be re-installed every time the kernel changes.

Thanks again!
